The 2019 Lambert soccer season may be over, but the honors--both nationally and locally -- keep rolling in for the state championship boys and state finalist girls varsity teams.
Nationally, both teams finished in the top 15 teams in the country, according to the Final USA Today/Coaches rankings. The boys were ranked 3rd, the girls, 14th.
Locally, the Forsyth County News named its All-County teams. Lambert squads grabbed county-leading numbers of players on both the girls' and boys' teams.
On the girls' All County first team, Lambert players were named to eight of the eleven positions-- Sydney Hennessey (D), Ellie Prybylski (D), Brooke Schuyler (MF), Ellie Christensen (MF), Melina West (D), Maddy Schulte (GK), Faith Ferrer (F), and Kendall Page (MF).
Lambert forward Madison Haugen was named girls' All County Player of the Year. The newspaper lauded her for a great season: "Georgia commit made a triumphant return to the Longhorns after missing the 2018 season, scoring 33 goals, including six hat tricks, and totalling 15 assists.
Lambert girls' coach Scott Luthart was named All County Coach of the Year, leading his team to a 22-1-0 record in 2019 and a berth in the State Championship game.
As for Lambert boys, four players, more than any other school, were named to the All County First Team--Thomas Powers (F), Campbell Wilson (MF), Jay Patterson (D) and Chris Smith (GK).
Two more Longhorns were named to the All County Second Team--Kyler Darsey (F) and Trey Kirksey (D).
Lambert forward Hayden Fontana was boys' All County Player of the Year. The newspaper praised his great season: "Quick, crafty striker who bettered his display from last year's state title team, scoring 25 goals and contributing seven assists."
Lambert boys' coach Chris Wilson was named All County of the Year, leading his team to a 21-1-0 record in 2019 and his third State Championship.
