Four Lambert boys varsity players accounted for a season-high six goals as the Longhorns (16-1-0) Thursday wrapped up their regular season play with a resounding 6-0 thumping of the Harrison Hoyas (7-10-1) at the Horn.
Sophomore Yeonsung Lee and senior Thomas Powers each scored two goals. Seniors Hayden Fontana and Trey Hines also got on the score sheet, with one goal each.
Fontana, now with 21 goals on the season, got Lambert off to a quick start only 5 minutes into the first half. The striker broke through the Hoya defense, faked the keeper to the ground, then zipped the ball into the net.
Lee added Lambert's second goal at the 33-minute mark, gathering in a long pass, slipping around his defender and then firing a rocket over the keeper, off the underside of the crossbar and into the goal.
Hines was next in the goal parade. With 5 minutes remaining in the first half, Hines took a smooth pass from Fontana, then slid a shot from the right edge of the box past the keeper and into the left corner of the net.
Lee wrapped up the first half scoring, with his second goal on a breakaway with only 55 seconds remaining in the half. At halftime, Lambert 4, Harrison 0.
In the second half, the 'Horns continued their dominance, with several younger players including Hugh Hedrick, Deny Kulasinac, Brogan Riggle and Lewis Seddon logging valuable minutes on the pitch.
All three Lambert goalkeepers also played, with Cole Scott and Joao Moreira making big saves to preserve the Longhorns' 12th shutout of the season.
With about 30 minutes left to play, Scott stopped a Harrison penalty kick after a hands call against the Longhorns in the box. On the penalty kick, Scott correctly read the shooter's shot to his left and made a diving save with his hands.
Not to be outdone, Moreira dove to his left, making a sparking save on a Hoya shot targeted for the lower left corner of the goal.
Forward Thomas Powers extended the Lambert lead in the second half, scoring his sixth and seventh goals of the season. With 20 minutes remaining, he beat the Hoya keeper on the short side after outrunning a defender and firing a low shot into the right side of the goal. Powers finished out the scoring with 13 minutes remaining, tapping in a great goalmouth cross from Lee.
FINAL SCORE: LAMBERT 6, HARRISON 0.
