Longhorns stampede West Hall, move to 10-0-0
Hayden Fontana scored three goals and Tyler Nadiak contributed two assists Tuesday as boys varsity won 4-0 at West Hall (6-4-0). With the victory, the Longhorns moved to 10-0-0 on the season. It was also their fourth straight win over a non-region opponent.
The win came on the heels of the ‘Horns emotional 2-1 overtime triumph Monday against Forsyth Central. The West Hall match Tuesday was Lambert’s fourth game in six days.
Nonetheless, they showed no signs of fatigue, with Nadiak sending a smooth lead pass to Fontana who outran his defender and slotted home a shot past the keeper for a 1-0 first half lead.
Fontana scored again at end of the half and midway through the second half to complete his hat trick, the senior’s second of the season. Nadiak notched his second assist later in the half with a slick pass to Julian Cuervo, who volleyed home his second goal of the season, pushing the Longhorn lead to 4-0.
All three Lambert goalkeepers played in the match. They and their rock-solid defenders totally shut down the Spartan offense, racking up the ‘Horns ninth shutout in ten games. So far this season, Lambert has outscored its opponents, 30-1.
Friday, the team returns to the pitch, hosting archrival South Forsyth (5-3-1) in a key region battle. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. Earlier this season, Lambert won at South, 2-0.
