Lambert Girls Record Historic Win Over Rival South Forsyth
Just when you thought the Lambert girls couldn’t improve on their dominant 9-0 win over South Forsyth in the 1st leg of the home-and-away series; they did that one better by finishing off a 10-0 mercy-rule victory (their second in 4 days) on Friday night.
After an early goal by Brooke Schuyler put the Longhorns up 1-0 only 3:59 into the game, it was tough sledding as the Lady War Eagles battled toe-to-toe in a hotly contested match.
However, Lambert would go on to tally 3 goals in a 14:17 span midway through the first half to really put the Lady War Eagles in a tough 4-0 hole at the half.
Lambert would get hot again in the 2nd half; scoring 6 goals in a 20:57 span to dispatch the Lady War Eagles and end the match early by invoking the mercy rule on an Aja Celka goal with 6:24 to play.
Maddie Haugen led the charge; tying a school record with 4 goals in the game. Other goal scorers included Ellie Prybylski, Sydney Hennessey, Taylor Clark, and Isabella Weigle.
11 different players recorded at least a point in the victory.
The Longhorns now find themselves at 12-0-0 (7-0 in Region) on the year, and they have outscored their opponents by a combined 62-1.
The 9th straight shutout also sets a new program record for most consecutive shutouts in a season.
Lambert will host Region opponent Milton on Wednesday as they close out the pre-Spring Break part of their schedule.
