Domination was the name of the game Friday as Lambert varsity boys defeated. North Forsyth, 3- 0, at Raider Valley Stadium.
The ‘Horns, playing their third game in five days, showed little fatigue against North, controlling the game from the start to finish. Two goals in the first half and one in the second half provided all the scoring Lambert would need in its eighth shutout win of the season.
The Longhorn offense was operating on all cylinders in this game. They clicked quickly at the 10-minute mark of the first half as Hayden Fontana took a slick lead pass in stride from forward Kyler Darsey and fired a shot past the keeper from 10 yards out. Seven minutes later, Fontana scored again….this time, on a powerful header following a great cross from midfielder Yeonsung Lee.
With 25 minutes to go in the second half, forward Thomas Powers took a pass from Fontana, burst through two defenders in the box, then faked his way past the keeper and smoothly slid the ball into the empty net.
As usual, the Longhorn defense and keepers did what they do best: shut down the opponents. North Forsyth rarely threatened, with most of the Raiders’ shots coming from distance. When it was over, the scoreboard showed another Lambert victory: LAMBERT 3, NORTH FORSYTH 0.
The comfortable scoreline allowed Coach Chris Wilson to clear his bench, giving playing time to all 21 players, including three goalkeepers. It also allowed several frontline players to get some valuable rest as they face three key matchups in the coming week.
Monday at 7p.m., Lambert will complete a suspended game against Forsyth Central (7-2-0) at the Horn. The game was suspended last week due to weather. With 6 minutes remaining, the teams are tied 1-1. If neither team scores in the remaining regulation time, they will play overtime and after that, if the score is still tied, the game will be decided by penalty kicks.
Tuesday at 7:30p.m, Lambert travels to West Hall (4-2-0) for a nonconference matchup with the Spartans.
Friday, the archrival South Forsyth War Eagles (4-3-1) visit the Horn for a big conference battle. Earlier this season, Lambert won at South Forsyth, 2-0. Kickoff for Friday’s South Forsyth game is scheduled for 8p.m. It's Youth Night, so bring the kids for lots of fun and some great soccer ! HOOK ‘EM!!
