Lambert Girls Finish Win Over Central Despite Lightening Delay
The Lambert girls continued their impressive run through the first half of Region play with a 4-0 victory over Forsyth Central on Thursday night.
In a game that started on Friday, March 8th, Maddie Haugen put the Longhorns on the board early; netting her first goal a mere 2:09 into the game after a deft pass by Ellie Christensen to put the Longhorns on the front foot early.
Haugen was on the distribution end of the next goal as she played Brooke Schuyler in towards goal, and after some nifty footwork by Schuyler, followed by a cool 1 on 1 finish with the Central keeper, Lambert found themselves up 2-0 before 10 minutes had elapsed in the match.
Shortly after the start of the second half, several lightning delays eventually halted the match with 36:55 to play.
The game was resumed 4 days later, and the Longhorns picked up right where they left off. A great run and some individual skill by Brooke Schuyler resulted in a foul in the box, and Maddie Haugen calmly stepped up to finish the penalty kick for her second goal of the game. Haugen completed the hat trick (her 3rd of the season) by finishing a brilliant pass by Brooke Schuyler to push the lead to 4-0 just 5:05 into the resumed game.
The seamless Longhorn defense continually snuffed out any mounting attack, and the Longhorns finished off their 8th shutout on the season.
The ladies will start the second half of Region play at North Forsyth at 5:30 on 3/15/19.
