Lambert varsity boys roll past North Forsyth, 5-0
Give that young man a hat (trick)! Lambert senior striker Hayden Fontana scored three goals in 25 minutes Friday as the ‘Horns blasted North Forsyth, 5-0.
Fontana opened the scoring in the 16th minute of the first half, slipping past his defender for a low, accurate shot from 10yards out. Senior teammate Thomas Powers dented the net just minutes later, taking a cross on the left, then firing a shot past the keeper to expand the Lambert lead to 2-0. Fontana scored again almost immediately afterwards, then tallied once more before the end of the half with a laser shot from distance for a 4-0 Lambert lead.
That was more than enough for the Lambert defense and two goalkeepers, who completely shut down the North Forsyth offense. Both teams were also slowed by a chilly rain in the second half. Then, with only minutes remaining, Lambert forward Tyler Nadiak zipped in one final shot to give the Longhorns a 5-0 win.
The victory was Lambert’s third straight at home. The Longhorns, at 3-0, have also not given up a goal in the early season. The ‘Horns have outscored their first three opponents,10-0.
The team plays its first road game of the season Tuesday against always-tough, traditional rivals South Forsyth. The ‘Horns topped the War Eagles, 3-2, last May to win the State Championship.
