Boys roll into the GHSA Semifinals
Lambert Varsity Boys roll into the GHSA Semifinals!
The Longhorns did it again Friday night at the 'Horn with a 3-0 shellacking of the East Coweta Indians. The quarterfinal playoff game was witnessed by a loud, enthusiastic crowd, one of the largest of the season.
After a scoreless first half, the 'Horns grabbed a 1-0 lead early in the second half on a laser beam from the top of the box, blasted by captain Trey Hines. It appeared Lambert had scored again just minutes later on a beautiful header from Logan Racine, but the officials ruled the play offsides.
Despite that, 'Horns continued their second half domination, and padded their lead to 2-0 on a goal by scoring leader Hayden Fontana. Finally, with just minutes remaining, Lambert pressure in the East Coweta defensive zone forced a foul in the box and a penalty kick. Trey Hines calmly slotted the shot home from the spot for the final margin, Lambert 3, East Coweta 0.
Another tremendous effort by the 'Horns, who padded their record to 16-4-1. So far, they've outscored their three playoff opponents, 7-1. Lambert is now just two games away from its first boys' state soccer championship since 2012. Join us to support the team Tuesday night in the semifinals...time and place TBA.
