Horns move past Brookwood on way to Quarterfinals

May 4, 2018

Varsity boys put together a great all-around effort Wednesday night in outlasting a very tough, physical Brookwood Bronco squad, 2-0, in Round 2 of the GHSA playoffs at the Horn.

Hayden Fontana opened the scoring midway through the first half.  The Longhorn striker broke into the open with a great individual burst through the Brookwood defense, followed by a smooth fake on the keeper and a simple finish for 1-0 Lambert lead.

The always sturdy ‘Horn defense held off a Bronco offensive thrust early in the second half, helped by Cole Scott’s cool work in the goal.   Then, with about 15 minutes left in the game,  the Brookwood goalie made a big save on a wicked shot by Lambert defender Jay Patterson.   The rebound landed perfectly at the foot of ‘Horn forward Kyler Darsey, who made no mistake, smashing it home for a 2-0 Lambert lead. and a berth in QUARTERFINALS OF THE GEORGIA STATE SOCCER CHAMPIONSHIPS!

Congratulations to the boys on a great team victory.  Now,  everyone be at The Horn Friday night at 8:00 pm for the quarterfinal match against East Coweta!  GO LONGHORNS!! WIN FOREVER!!!
