After a scoreless tie in regulation and overtime, the Lady Longhorns went to the penalty spot to decide the match against West. Goalkeeper Jordyn Ebert came up with a big save in the fifth round to put Lambert in position to win the match. Then M.E. Craven stepped up and converted the decider to start the celebration.
On the boys' side it was nearly a carbon copy. After conceding an early goal, the boys battled back to tie the match on a great goal from Pablo Samur, assisted by Logan Racine. Despite getting the better of the run of play for the last 40 minutes, the Longhorns couldn't break through, and a scoreless overtime sent the match to PKs as well. Lambert was a perfect 6-for-6 from the spot, and after goalkeeper Avery Dekshenieks saved the sixth attempt from West, Racine slotted his in the upper corner to seal the victory.
Both teams will play Milton on the road on Tuesday and then return home this Friday for matches against Forsyth Central. Friday, March 10 is also Youth Night. Youths (middle school and younger) get in FREE wearing their club soccer jersey, Lambert Soccer swag, or a Lambert 3v3 t-shirt.
