Lambert Girls Win 7-A State Championship

It had all the prerequisites for a great state championship match, and the Lambert vs Grayson game lived up to the expectations. The same two teams met in the state finals in 2015, where Grayson came out ahead. The Lambert upperclasswomen were looking to avenge that defeat. The same two teams met very early this season, where Grayson won 1-0. But the Lady Longhorns knew that they were a different team than they were back in February, and it's the last game of the season that matters the most. Lambert took the lead in the first half through a goal by senior Maddie Eddleman. Grayson came roaring back to get the better run of possession for the remainder of the first half, but the Lambert defen

Longhorns Blank Mill Creek 4-0 in Semifinals

When Lambert hosted Mill Creek on Tuesday night in the GHSA state semifinals, most expected a tight match that mirrored the preseason friendly the teams played back in February which Lambert won 3-2. But the Lady Longhorns are a much different team than they were in February - a much better team. Alisa Barr got the Longhorns on the scoreboard in the 16th minute after Lambert dominated the early going. Despite getting the better of the possession and chances, the ladies were unable to extend their lead and the halftime score remained 1-0. The only chances Mill Creek were able to mount were on restarts, and the Lambert defense was up to the task. But the longer the game stayed at 1-0, the more

Boys Playoff Run Ends With 2-1 Defeat

Threatening weather did not prevent a great crowd from showing up at the Horn on a Saturday night to cheer on the Lambert Boys in the quarterfinals of the GHSA state playoffs. A tight defensive battle soon opened up in the second half but the clock ran out on the Longhorns as Walton won the match 2-1, ending Lambert's season. Both teams played stifling defense, with neither side allowing a serious chance on goal in the first half. Walton got the better of the possession in the opening frame, but the Lambert defense turned them away time and again. The half ended 0-0. The second half started the same way as the first, with Lambert ceding most of the possession. But facing wave after wave from

Girls Advance to Semis after 1-0 Victory Over Walton

Friday night at the Horn it was a defensive battle won by Lambert as they rode an early goal to win the match 1-0 and advance the GHSA semifinals. In the 7th minute Katelyn Castelli scored a goal that was assisted by Ellie Prybylski to put the Longhorns up early. From there defense was the name of the game for both sides as the teams battled physically for possession and field position. Walton did a good job of packing the box and the midfield, limiting the Longhorns' chances on offense. But the Lambert defense was equally good, holding Walton to just five shots over the final 73 minutes to secure the hard-fought 1-0 win. It was the Longhorns' 15th shutout of the season - a new school record

Boys Beat Hillgrove 3-2 to Advance

A wild Wednesday night saw Hillgrove down to 9 men by the end of the match, and the Longhorns held on for a 3-2 win, and spot in the quarterfinals on Saturday. A fairly technical match kicked off with each side utilizing good possession to create chances. Lambert got on the front foot with a sustained attack, and a corner kick in the 16th minute saw them cash in when Logan Racine headed home a goal from the cross by Trey Hines to put the Longhorns up 1-0. Hillgrove would turn the tide in their favor with pressure in their offensive third. A failed clearance by the Lambert defense fell to a Hillgrove player who slotted the ball across the goal mouth to a teammate at the back post who put it i

Tuesday night at the Horn, Lambert hosted Kennesaw Mountain in the GHSA playoffs, and rode a wave of second half offense to cruise to a 7-0 victory. A tight first half saw the Longhorns up 1-0 at the break, but from the opening whistle for the second half, it was all Longhorns. Scoring two goals in the first 2:26 of the second frame, the ladies poured it on and coasted from there. M.E.
